Who we are

We are the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (‘UCLES’), a non-teaching department of the University of Cambridge. ‘Cambridge Assessment’, 'University of Cambridge English Examinations' and 'Cambridge English' are our operating names.

Your use of this website is subject to these Terms

Your use of this website at (the ‘Site’) is governed by these Terms of Use and by entering and using the site you confirm that you understand and agree to these Terms of Use. Where you enter and use the Site as part of your duties of employment, you are warranting that you are authorised to agree to these Terms of Use and to act on behalf of your employer.

If you do not accept these Terms of Use you are not authorised to use or continue using the Site.

We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to change, modify, add or delete any part of these Terms of Use at any time and any revised version will be effective immediately it is displayed on the Site. It is your responsibility to regularly check these Terms of Use for any changes. Your continued use of the Site after any revised version has been displayed will be deemed to be acceptance of the revised Terms of Use.

Availability of Services

You acknowledge that we cannot guarantee that our Site will always be available to you, owing to the nature of the internet. In addition, you acknowledge that our Site may be unavailable owing to maintenance, but where possible we will carry out such maintenance outside core operating hours and we will try to minimise the period of any disruption.

Accuracy of information and disclaimer

Although every reasonable effort has been made to ensure that the information on the Site is accurate at the time of publication, it is subject to variation at any time without notice and we give no warranty whatsoever that any such information will be accurate or complete at any particular time or at all.

The Site and any information or other material contained in it are made available strictly on the basis that you accept it on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Where you rely on any information or other material contained on the Site, you do so entirely at your own risk and you accept that all warranties, conditions and undertakings, express or implied, whether by common law, statute, trade usage, course of dealings or otherwise in respect of the Site are excluded to the fullest extent permitted by law.

We exclude all liability whatsoever, to the fullest extent permitted by law, in respect of any loss or damage resulting or arising from any non-availability or use of the Site or of any other website linked to it, or from reliance on the contents of this website or any material or content accessed through it. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have appropriate protection against viruses and other security arrangements in place whilst using the Internet.

Nothing in these terms of use shall exclude our liability to you for fraudulent misrepresentation by us or our employees or for death or personal injury resulting from our negligence or that of our employees.

Subject to the above, you acknowledge that our liability to you for direct loss under, arising out of or in connection with your use of the site shall be limited to £100 (one hundred pounds sterling) for any one incident or series of incidents. We shall, however, in no circumstances be liable to you under or in connection with your use of the Site for any indirect, economic or consequential loss whatsoever; loss of revenue; loss of profits; loss of business; loss of goodwill or reputation; loss of use; any deletion, corruption, destruction, loss or removal of data or any professional charges.

Code of conduct

You agree to ensure that any details you supply to us through the Site are accurate and to let us know promptly if any of the details you have supplied to us about yourself change.

You will keep confidential any personal login password provided by us and will be fully responsible for any loss or damage resulting from actions or activities that occur under your password. You must ensure that you exit from your account at the end of each session and immediately notify us of any unauthorised use of your password or account or any other breach of security. We cannot and will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to comply with these obligations.

We reserve the right to terminate your access to password-protected areas of our Site should we consider that your use of the Site is detrimental to the Site or to other users.

When accessing any part of the Site you agree:

  • not to use the Site in such a way that disrupts, interferes with or restricts the use of the Site by other third party users;
  • to ensure that any materials uploaded, displayed or transmitted by you through or to the Site are not false, offensive, defamatory, threatening, obscene, unlawful and do not breach or infringe the rights of any person anywhere in the world and you waive any moral rights in respect of any such materials;

  • not to send 'spam' email or any unsolicited correspondence which is unrelated to the business of UCLES to any addresses made available on the Site; and
  • not to change, modify, delete, interfere with or misuse data contained on the Site entered by or relating to any third party user of the Site.

You indemnify us for any loss, damages or expenses we suffer owing to a breach by you of these terms of use.

You should satisfy yourself that you have appropriate protection against computer viruses, worms, trojan horses or other items of a destructive nature whilst using the internet, and that your connection to the Site is secure.

Links and message boards

The Site may include hypertext links to third party websites. We accept no responsibility for and can give no warranties, guarantees or representations in respect of, the content or availability of material of any third party site.

Any opinions expressed on any message boards forming part of the site are not necessarily those of UCLES, or anyone connected with UCLES. We reserve the right to edit or delete any postings to message boards at our sole discretion, but have no obligation to monitor or amend the content of such message boards.

You may create a hypertext link to our Site, but we would ask that the link is directed to the Site's homepage at as links within the Site may change from time to time.

Copyright and intellectual property

The copyright and other intellectual property in material contained in the Site, including without limitation in text, images, scripts and sounds, is owned by us except where otherwise stated.

These terms and conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with English law. Each party irrevocably agrees to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England over any claim or matter arising under or in connection with these terms and conditions.
